For those of you that have fat chins or Chins that aren't as active as they were when they were pups, try getting your Chin a wheel. If you can find one that has the mounting braquets on one side it is much better because the chin can get their neck caught in the axel. I used to have what the call "The Guillotine Wheel" and luckily Willy never had a problem with it, except that about 5 months after I got it broke from constant use and Willy caught his foot in the metal as it hit the bottom of the cage. Willy squeeked a little but after some careful inspection his toe was just sore and not broken.
But that's when the problems started. I didn't realize how much he loved running in it until I took it out because it was broken. Along with the broken axel came a broken Chin heart. For the first 3 days he wouldn't get down from his corner nook and he just laid there with his head between his paws and stared at me with sad eyes. Then after he got over it a little he came out and ran a little but for only half the time of his usual run and then he would go back to his perch and stare at me some more.
So I got online and ordered the Leo Braun Wheel for over $100, but when it came it was all worth it. Willy was a little skittish around it at first because his old wheel was an oversized wire hamster wheel and this is in simple terms a big metal bowl on its side with a bearing kit attached to it.
Now he doesn't have to time his leaps to step on the wires and he just lets loose and runs. The best part is his old wheel used to squeek so bad I sometimes put a little olive oil on the axel(which only worked for one night), but this thing zings and at night I can't hear a thing.
