Chipmunks are illegal depending on state, may require licensing.

Most chipmunks do NOT usually have rabies. An animal cannot survive long with rabies. Most people blow it out of proportion. Furthermore it is highly unusual for prey animals, such as chipmunks, to contract it since they usually would be killed if bitten by a predator w/ rabies.

Cats attack smaller animals. It is doing within its nature, not anything abberant.

Get the chip to a vet/rehabber though. Cat bites/scratches can be deadly to small animals because of the bacteria they have.

If you want a pet, contact a breeder.

: : We have just found a baby chipmunk. We believe our cats killed
: : the mother as we found a larger one dead last week. On the weekend,
: : we saw a smaller chipmunk on the deck with the cats. He was alive
: : but his back was wet. We brought the cats in and left the chipmunk
: : alone. Today (after 3 days) we found him in the garage. He was
: : eating sunflower seeds, but not moving much. We picked him up with
: : no problem. His rear right leg drags when he walks. We called a
: : small animal vet and they said it should heal on its own. He is
: : currently in a large aquarium with shaving, water, and seeds. When
: : we initially put him in the aqarium, he walked around, and went
: : through a toilet paper tube a few times. He is sleeping but
: : breathing fairly rapidly. What should we do?

:
: Are you sure you allow to keep chipmunks as pets? cause i think like raccon they are wildanimal and shouldn't be haven't them. Maybe you town allows it. If you planning to keep it, ask if its legal and check for rabes, cause chipmunks usually carry them. I think the breathing rapidly is probably normal the vet or animal shelter about it. And you gotta control that cat, it killed 2 animal already. The cat got issues.
