heating dormice with heating cable?

I am thinking og placing a dormice enclosure in a room with a quite cold room-temperature.
Would it be safe to put heating-cable (of the ones made for reptiles) inside the enclosure or will the dormice start gnawing the cable???
Has anyone experience with this?
