Hi, I breed dormice and I find that they breed better when human contact is kept to a minimum. I only handle my adults when I need to, for cage cleaning, etc. The fun is in hand-taming the babies so they will make good pets for whoever adopts them. They also like warmth....they go into a dormant state if the temp falls below 65. While it is not always necessary, I keep a small reptile heating pad under the nest box (wooden bird nest box, about budgie size) to make sure they are nice and toasty. My only problem with breeding them is to make sure my females separate from the male when she gives birth otherwise they keep getting pregnant while nursing which isn't healthy.
