minimizing disturbance?

Since there's still no life on the forum yet, I thought I'd ask how some of you that are keeping successfull breeders check in on the critters?

When I cleaned out my dormouse enclosure today I decided to check in on their nest and see if I had any babies yet. One of my females is definatly pregnant...but I think I really freaked them out trying to check inside the nest box.

How do you guys check? Did you just build a box with a lid that lifts up for easy checking? I thought about this, but figured they would just nest someplace else to avoid the weekly disturbance.. (the enclosure is pretty big, and they have plenty of sites to nest in both heated and non-heated).

Any thoughts?

Cliff
