I'm going to have to agree with "s simpson" on both accounts. The rug biting could be something in the fibers of the carpet that is causing it or it's something we'll never know the reason. You could try using some "Nature's Miracle" spot/stain remover and see if it that will remove the cause. If not, the bitter apple is a good idea.
The people biting thing...well, I have a biter...a BAD biter. She will hang on for dear life and apply unbelievable pressure. She was also abused by a previous owner...she's a fear biter. Fear is relative and to know just what will set it off is to know the mind of the individual. That being said, I'm sure it comes apparent that fear biting is a real tough one to overcome for another living thing. I am not one who agrees with the constant socialization of a biting creature unless you have TOTAL control over the situation....again, it's all relative and what your pet sees as a threat may not be seen as a threat in your eyes. Though I don't doubt that a certain percentage of "people biting" can be overcome I don't believe that it can be overcome 100%. A biting ferret is not a good ambassador for the species and care should be taken in socializing it. Lily is not allowed to be held by others nor are people allowed to poke fingers at her...she feels secure to a point and then that point blurs. I've had her for 3 years...she will still chomp on me occassionally.
