i got my first ferret today after much anticipation

but i have been told they are a feline.. is this correct? I have 2 cats here at home I introduced the new baby to them and they didnt seem to mad or anything. i am still not letting them play because of severe size difference.. are cats ussuallly safe to play with the ferrets?

also if ferrets are a feline... is it possible for my ferret to contract leukemia from my cat? if so i am not letting them around eachother until i get the shot from the vet.
