Hi Shaun! First off there are some things for you to think about- hard. What in your personal situation has changed that would now make it alright to have a ferret? Ahter 2 years of having "Bear" why were you not prepared so that you could keep him? Have those things changed? Would you have enough time to commit to a ferret? Will you be able to afford ferret food? Vet check ups and shots and any possible emergency vet care? Ferrets require more attention than many people realize.... IF you want a pleasant, healthy, well-trained animal. I am not asking you to answer these questions here on the board- not at all. I am just asking you to think these things over in your own mind. Neither am I trying to discourage you from having a ferret. I am just trying to point out some of the realities of taking on a ferret. We just recently spent about $800 for ultrasound, xrays, medicine, surgery and more on 1 of our ferrets. Lots of people wouldn't go to the same lengths, but that is also something for you to think about - how far would or could you go for your ferret. Shaun, please do think these things over as they are a VERY important part of living with a ferret. And it sounds to me like you are sincere in wanting to do the very best for a ferret. Just ponder these questions and decide for yourself how much you can take on. Let us know what you come up with and if you decide to go ahead with it, ask all the questions you can possibly think of!
