You don't really need to clean that often. My cages get a cleaning every two weeks.. Gerbils are dry desert animals. They don't smell because their urine and feces are dry. Rats are the spot cleaners that will use one or two corners of your cage. Gerbils go where they will..but there is no smell... or very little anywa.
