:Topaz, we are new to gerbils (about 2 months ) but are presently living with six in three cages and hopefully expecting our first litter next week. I find that even though they are all healthy and active, they each have their own personality. Maybe you could tempt your shy gerbil with a sunflower treat. First she could eat it off your hand and then later place it so that she would have to climb onto your hand to get it. Once she is comfortable sitting on your hand you could start picking her up. I'm wondering- was she living with males in the pet store? My pregnant gerbil Sugar is shyer than the male who also runs up my arm. Good luck! Kim
