All gerbils have different personalities. Like humans some gerbils are just shyer then others. My Taren has no problem sitting in my hand eating seeds or crawling on my arm but he really hates beeing picked up and taken out of his cage. His mate, El, will not eat out of my hand but has no problem just running up my arm and sitting on my shoulder while i do things. Corky will run away and act scared when i try to catch him but as soon as i've got him out of his cage he just loves to play. Opie is shy and just really doesnt enjoy being handled at all. he wont bite and he'll come up and sniff your hand or take sunflower seeds from you but he really just doesnt like being handled. okay im gonna stop here cause i could go on and on forever about all the different gerbil perswonalities i've seen. i think you get the point :) the AGS website has a very good section about "taming" shy gerbils. ~Abby~
