Well my gerbils do fine in those plastic balls. most of them dont like running in it and just sit there. but the few that do like it havn't been harmed from it. About the leash thing. My experience are those don't even work for hamsters, but you always could try it. Make sure your in a small safe room in case your gerbil gets loose. Other things i like to do with my gerbils. I sometimes let them run around on my bed. Just make sure you keep and eye on them. I have a really big bed and they love running around climbing on piles of pillows and burrowing in the folds from the cover. As long as you make sure to keep an eye on them they should be fine. Also when i'm on the computer i let them sit on my shoulder and climb all around on the chair (it's a pretty big chair). ~Abby~
