Actually there's really no way to guarentee they won't chew on something... *l* I don't really give my gerbils anything plastic like a wheel...they chew right through it in no time. I give them lots of toilet paper rolls, chew toys, wood pieces, they get pieces of dry kibble to chew on.. etc... but no toys like that that they can ruin. I learned my lesson when they chewed through the habitrail tubes I'd put in there for them at one point.
