Yesterday my spouse and I bought 2 male guinea pigs (so the store says). They told me they should house fine together because Guinea pigs are pack animals and because they are brothers and have been caged together since birth. They are only a month old. They seem fine right now but when they become sexually mature will they fight????

I bought a book with them and read it but I still feel like I dont know everything! For instance, they talk ALOT. Is that normal? Or are they scared? Sometimes when the phone rings they make a different sounding noise, like a purr. Is that normal?

Also it says that they shouldnt drink alot but I have one that is always nibbling on the water bottle. Not much water is gone out of it but he licks at it often. The water bottle works fine, I checked it. Neither one acts sick, they are NOT listless and they DO eat well.

If I read the book right, it says not to feed them much of the commercial pellets a day?? I never heard of that before. I thought that is what they are supposed to eat? It sounds like the book I got favors hay, fruits, veggies and greens. Not that I mind. I just want them to have what is the healthiest for them. When I read in this book not to feed them more then a few tablespoons of pellets a day, I ordered another book online! I am slowly introducing them to fruits, veggies and greens. One new food a week, just incase they have a reaction or something. This week it is apples and they love them!

Another question I had is vitamin supplement. I know they need quite a lot of vit c. Should I buy a supplement??? If so what and where?

I also read that males have an odor when reaching maturity. Is it a strong odor and when does it start to appear? Are there risks in getting the males fixed? Will the odor go away if I get them fixed?

I think I asked enough questions! I just hope people look at this forum. It doesnt look like it is used much! I will post some pictures in a couple days! They are cute as buttons. Thank you, LindsayMarie
