actually its perfectly ok to chew on the bars. teh scabbyness could have been caused by many things, a piece of bedding caught in the mouth, bad food getting in a small cut, and many more. take him/her to the vet and then maybe you will get some medication or advice, as we cannot see how severly the mouth is cut or how scabby it is.
