hamster in hole, how do I coax him out?

My daughter left the door to the hamster cage open (we've only had it a week so don't know a lot about what would work) and now the hamster is under the bathroom vanity! It crawled in by finding an opening on the floor by the bottom trim. We confirmed it's in there by looking through the opening where the pipes are under the sink. We put food near the opening. Can a hamster crawl out 3 or 4 inches up an inch in diameter smooth pipe that is totally vertical? Any ideas to coax him out? Thanks for any suggestions.
