Congrats on your new additions! First off, you will NOT need to feed or water the babies themselves for about 4 weeks.. But the mom MUST have a big supply of both for herself. I suggest using a water bottle too if you haven't got one already, becauses baby hammies can die of drowning easily.
Now with babies dying, they won't die unless suffacated or neglected. Don't touch the babies with your bare hands until about 4 weeks, if you MUST touch them, use a clean glove or a clean bag around your hand. The reason for that is, your momma ham may not trust your scent around her babies and she can get offensive and go to cannibalism (eating babies, 1 or all of them) or just neglecting it. So please be careful of that.
I'm not sure of the babies going up the tubes, I doubt they will. If they do, thy couldn't crawl anyways and the momma would get it down probably, but the bars on the cage itself is another deal. If your cage has wide bars on the sides or even the bottom, the babies can fall or crawl through easily. So if you do have that kind of bars, put some newspaper (shredded) EVERYWHERE. Lol, make sure its enough to where the babies can't get through any bars.
