I go to a school where pets aren't allowed (otherwise I would surely have a snake or lizard - I'm a big reptile person). However, one of my friends had a sweet Teddybear Hamster, but she got kicked out of the school (not for having the hamster, for other reasons), so she gave her to me.
I've never had a rodent before.
She kept her in a tiny little critter carrying case, which the little one could barely move around in. I place her into a large rubber maid container with aspen bedding (I was advised to use that because it doesn't create dust and all that and cause respitory infections). I change the water (which is in one of those dispensers - I hung it on the side) and food daily. She has a little house that she likes to go into. She lives in my closet because I can't have her out in the open, but I make sure it's a good temperature in there and take her out constantly to play with her.
Is there anything else I should do? Am I incorrect with some of my methods? Like I said before, I've never had a rodent before, and all I know is what this girl told me. I have, however, learned not to necessarily just trust one person, especially when their reasoning is, "Nah, it'll be fine" for something.
Your help is much appreciated. Thanks!
