I agree. My hedgie isn't stinky at all, and all I use is newspaper for litter! The wheel is the only thing that is a pain to clean.. but he loves it so much, I dont mind :-)

:My hedgie is definitely not smelly! Yes, they have poop, and they're poop stinks, but it doesn't even remotely compare to a well cleaned litter box in stink value. Keeping these guys clean is a matter of keeping up with their needs. Some hedgies are even litter trained! I think probably the only gross part of these guys is cleanign their running wheels. They do like to poop and pee while they run on their wheels. But clean up is a breeze if you handle it everyday. Otherwise, smell is based on the choice of litter you use. Many people use a litter called Cell Sorb. Its intended for ferrets, and keeps the hedgies cages smelling plenty fresh. Ferrets obviously have a lot of odor in their urine, so this stuff works great for multiple hedgies. Additionally, hedgies tend to stay pretty clean, besides their poopy feet from running, and bathing is always an option. As long as their cage has plenty of air flow, there shoudln't be a problem with smell. I even know people who keep their babies in their bedroom.
::My friend breeds hedgehogs and she would like to give one to me. I have been reading about them trying to learn as much as possible. I don't want to take one just because they are cute and my kids want one. I want to make sure that I can commit to a lifetime of care for any animal I have.
::My friend tells me that the feces of these animals is very smelly and the cage will smell no matter how much you clean it. I can handle anything, but not a smelly cage.
::I currently have to care for 2 tiels, 2 geckos, a guinea pig, a hamster, two children and a grouchy husband. Is the smell worse than a guinea pig?

::Thanks.
