The answer to your question is that, yes, it is LEGAL to own a Grevy's zebra. However, because they are endangered you must obtain a permit from the USDA as well as having the necessary permits to move one. Anyone you would find who already owns a Grevy's should be able to tell you about the permitting requirements -- but be sure to ask. I know of one former Grevy's owner who got into some big-time trouble by not jumping through all the required hoops.
