males and females can mate at around 5 to 6 weeks old. So if you left the male with the girls past this age then it is quite possible some of the girls are pregnant. gestation in mice is about 19-22 days. You will be able to tell if the female is pregnant in the last week of her term, when she starts to look like she swallowed a couple of ping pong balls. some females will start making their nests at 2 weeks into her term.
As for the cage size, it sounds like your cages are big enough.
Remember that you'll have to separate the males from the females at 5 weeks old, and males need more space then female mice. For example, if you have 3 males and 3 females, the males should get the biggest cage, or they may fight.
:I saved 3 females from the pet store about 4 months ago. They had 6 babies that survived. My question is I thought they all where female but I am think one might be male. I had 7 in a 20 gal long tank but thought that might be small so I put 4 in a seprate cage (it is a wire cage that is two stories tall). Is that enough room for them. The babies are 8 weeks old now if one of them is male when can he impregnant the others and when will I know? I have taken him out of the cage and he has his own batchler pad. Any suggestions to know if they are pregnant? And are they in a big enough home?
