It's mostly a matter of making sure the holes are cut just right. But yeah, ya figure that the tubes only come in certain length sections, and each section has a connector. As long as your holes are big enough for the tubes, but too small for the connectors to go through, you're good to go. Just make sure there's a connector ring on the end on the inside, too, or it will just fall out. :)

And then, of course, if you decide to no longer have the tunnels, you've got to figure out how to plug those holes back up. My solution so far with that one in the top has been to stick a piece through and put windows on both ends - that way they can't get in the tubes, but they also can't get out of the box. But then, my Sterilites are mostly quarantine boxes, and seperation boxes for male babies. Might make some as playgrounds, though... I'm sure the "kids" would love that while their homes are being scrubbed. :)

Cut your holes too small, then shave as needed until you get a pretty snug fit. Better that way than to find you cut them too big. :)

'Luck.

:You can connect habitrail tubes to Sterilites? I didn't know that, I thought it would just fall out. Thanks!

::I've got a couple of Sterilites, too, and I was planning to cut holes in the sides big enough for Habitrail/Crittertrail/SAM tubes to connect them. One, in fact, already has a hole cut in the top and has the Safari loft at the top of a set of tubes.

::Hope that helps.
