I have learned a LOT since we bought the tamarin. I don't think that I, personally, could (or would want to) have a larger monkey. At least with JoJo my wife and I still have a life (at least so far -- he is not an adult yet!) but JoJo is like having some kind of tiny alien baby who can make five-foot leaps in the house. Because of the diapers and the harness/leash, I can take him just about anywhere I go. Now he expects to go with me whenever I go anywhere. Otherwise he pouts. He is really territorial about the den, which is "his" play area. He will allow a stranger to come into the den, but they had better not make a show of touching me while they are in the den! Not only does he see the den as "his" property, but he also very much sees me as his property. If I am not in the den, he is not happy about anyone except my wife touching me while he is riding on my shoulder or head. If one of our grown children or one of our grand-children, who he doesn't see all of the time, comes into the den, he isn't real happy about it, but he tolerates it. But if they make a show of touching me while we are in the den, that is just too much for him. Tamarins "attack" by jumping on the back of a foe. So far he has never tried to bite anyone (except me, but that is another story, and a long story at that). But when my daughter patted me on the head in the den, he would run like a bullet all around the den and jump as hard as he could on her back and then he would immediately jump off her back, run around the den, and repeat the on-off jump. He weighs less than a pound, so jumping on her as hard as he could still is not very much, but his intent to intimidate was clear. Anyway, I am really, really glad we got a tamarin instead of a larger monkey.
