ARGH! I went to register and when I came back I didn't realize the message I had typed was deleted! Well, here is a quick summary of what I typed:
I have two, and I wouldn't recommend getting just one. After you see the pups play together you will realize why. They are very social and interact constantly. When they had to be separated after their neuters, they cried for each other every night. If you can't spend AT LEAST 4 hours every day with your PD then you should definitely get two or more. And even then you will probably end up wanting to get another - they're addictive :)
As for vacations, I also usually take mine. But the one time I had to leave them behind I told the sitter not to play with them. If they get scared they could bite, especially if they haven't been well-socialized with strangers in their homes. And if the bite is reported, even if it is only by the doctor that treats the bite, I have heard stories of animal services taking the PD and killing it to test for rabies. Unfortunately PDs can't get rabies shots because the vaccine will kill them.
