Hi,
PD food can be found at a pet store that sells PD supplies, but much more commonly you can find it online. I buy mine from a local pet store, so I don't know of any good web sites.
As for life with a PD, it can be very trying and also very rewarding. PDs require massive ammounts of patience ant attention (several hours a day) and tough skin (for when he/she nips you, and he;she will). A prairie Dog that is neglected will be aggressive and noisy and a general pain in the butt, and not pleasant to have in your house. They are expensive to buy and expensive to own. Finding a vet may be hard, and it is an absolute MUST that your PD be fixed, which will curb aggression and drastically reduce nipping. OK, these warnings given, I love my PD. He is VERY smart, he greets me when I come home with a great big bark or eight, I rub his tummy and his chin and I hold him in my arms. He is affectionate and snuggles with me. He is an AEWSOME pet, not to mention CUTE as anthing when I have him on his leash in public. Total strangers will talk to me and ask me about my pet. Generally he will ride on my shoulder and get chin rubs from strangers, which he loves. My Gatsby is a jpypus animal that has brought me two years of happiness, and I look foreward to 10 more.
Yes, PDs can be housebroken, and they are very smart so it is easy to train them.
I don't know if you need a permit in MA. I would check with a reputable breeder.
Feel free to email me if you have any more questions. This forum is all but deserted. I hope it gets going again.
Good Luck!!!
