I actually took apart a set of cubicle storing shelves that I had and made a pen from that for free. The buns sleep in their cage when I'm at work or when I'm asleep myself, but they get let out into their pen whenever I am home. The only thing I've noticed is it's too short, so Pig climbs over it on a regular basis. Hazel can clear it in one leap, though she does so very rarely and seems more content to be in it than out of it. So keep in mind escapes are possible and they still need supervision while they're in the pen. If there's a way to get out, they will, however rare it might be, and they can get into trouble in a shockingly short amount of time.

As for flooring, half the pen in my cage is covered with a huge cardboard slab. The rest I left bare carpet. I haven't had any problems with this, but some rabbits love to chew carpet, which is BAD for them. It's up to your particular rabbit whether or not you leave carpet in. And make sure to either have a litterbox in every corner or some way to cover the floor in case they choose that corner for their potty. Else you may end up with some unpleasant suprises!
