Vet Awareness

I just want to alert you everyone about your vets. Even if they are vets, don't mind second-guessing things they tell you - you have to go with what you know about your own rabbit (or any pet), and your instincts. I recently lost my rabbit, Gypsy, because during a routine spay, the vet did not tie off Gypsy's uterus from her bladder correctly. I called her *everyday* and she kept saying her not eating, blood in her urine, no bowel movements, no urination, was completely "okay" and "normal." I put all my trust in her when she made these judgements. Gypsy died early Thursday morning on the 10th of this month after having a seizure in my arms. I'm currently filing complaints in hopes to get her investigated and fined.

Vets are not all-knowing and do not do everything correctly. Please be extra cautious about who you take your animals to, since, really.. they can either greatly help your animals, or greatly hurt them. I'm not saying that you must interrogate your vet, but it is good to question them about things before completely putting your trust into them - ESPECIALLY when it comes to rabbits. A lot of vets will say they treat rabbits but all they know about is breeding/live stock/meat rabbits and do not have the proper training to be treating house rabbits.

Be aware and cautious of your vet. Not all of them know as much as they claim to.
