Hi,
A 10-gallon tank is way too small. I live in Los Angeles and have had a lot of trouble finding an appropriate cage for my two females. Most pet stores out here sell "rat" cages but they are really hamster cages at most. A lot of people on the internet recommend certain brands over and over again. I looked into them and found them to be way too expensive (especially because most pet stores out here don't cater to the rat crowd.) I did find a really big rabbit cage for only $50. It is about 20 inches tall, 19 inches wide, and 25 inches long. My first cage that I bought from Petco was half the size of this one and cost $80. The rabbit cage I bought have bars on top and a big plastic bin on bottom with a solid floor. It is really easy to clean and much bigger than any "rat" cages at my local pet stores. If you take a look at the cages that people recommend and you get sticker shock, take a look at the rabbit cages (as long as the floor is solid and doesn't have bars.) I love the cage I bought because it has allowed me to string ropes around it for the rats to play on and I have a Wodent Wheel attached from the roof and a big hammock. Your rats will be much happier in a bigger cage.
