An Ethical Dilemma

A couple of weeks ago, I posted a message out my rat Bandit. She had bloody urine. Today she was diagnosed with a huge kidney tumor which was the cause of her bloody urine. Because the tumor is pressing up against her internal organs, the vet has recommended that she be put to sleep which we will do on Thursday.
Here is my dilemma. Bandit and her cagemate Smokey (1 year old) both have myco. Smokey needs rattie attention. With Bandit gone, do I: 1) buy a new baby for Smokey to play with but will infect with myco? 2) look for a myco-infected rat to adopt from a rescue to live with Smokey? 3)let Smokey live out the rest of her life alone?

I don't want to buy a healthy baby knowing that she will be infected and potentially die a horrible death. On the other hand, I don't want Smokey's last year or so to be miserable.

Any thoughts?
