Hi,
Smokey lived with a rat who had myco that showed serious symptons from Sept 2002 to Nov 2002. She got the "sniffles" and a little congestion in Dec. 2002. Currently, the vet has me giving her vibramycin for one month when she starts to get congested. After one month, I am supposed to stop the medication and begin again if symptons begin to reappear. I gave her one course of antibiotics in March. After one month on vibramycin, she stopped having wet sneezes, etc. But, after 2 weeks without the medication, she is having wet sneezes and congestion again so I've restarted the medication.

I read online that rats can catch myco from each other and one rat can cause an entire colony to get it and die. Is this wrong? Can a rat live with another rat with myco and not transmit it? Or could a rat exposed to it never succomb?

Thanks.
Lauren
