I once bought a cage with 1" spacing...

Mine all love multilevel cages, and I prefer Martins', like many others here. Mine chew down every hammock I leave in overnight, and it is tedious to put them in during the day and take them out at night, especially since mine never lay in them or use them. The ferret cages with tubes are not appropriate for rats, they will pee and poop in the tubes immediately and constantly, and are a nightmare to clean. I wish the tubes would pop off easily for cleaning, they are cool looking cages.

I once used some of that black gutter downspout tube stuff to connect some Rubbermaid tubs my female rats were living in, and had the same problem. Mine love to snooze in the larger white PVC plumbing sections,and they rinse clean (daily) quite easily.

Sorry I don't know the correct names for these hardware store items, I just walked through Home Depot looking for stuff that would make their lives more interesting, and forgot to find out the names.
