I have two young male rats that I had neutered a few months ago. The procedures went smoothly and only cost about $100 each (including pain meds and antibiotics). My two boys, Benson and Fez, seem no worse for wear. I don't have any experience with spayed females though. Good luck!

:A woman in my rabbit rescue group knows someone who needs to find a new home for her two girl rats since her husband's extremely allergic to them. I already emailed her and offered them a home here. Now, here's the problem, I have two male rats already. I don't want to have two large cages in my room so I'd like to house them together. I don't want to run a rattery ;) so I'll need to spay/neuter either the boys or the girls.

:Since they're such small animals, I was wondering a couple of things..

:-Has anyone lost their rat to neutering or spaying?

:-How much does the surgery cost on average?

:-How long is the recovery and when should I start to introduce the boys and the girls after they recover?

:Thanks in advance.
