:Otherwise, if these are squirrels that roam around in your backyard or whatnot, if they want to eat them, they will take them off the tree. If they don't, they simply wont. It's there for the taking, just watch and see what they do. I know the squirrels around my place eat almost anything and everything.

Thanks. Basically I was wondering if collecting all these scores of lovely chestnuts, that otherwise would become garbage, and leaving them for the squirrels that roam around is worth my time and effort. I guess you're saying it is.
